Dell XPS 15 9560 vs. Dell XPS 15 7590 (with mitigations on/off)
Testing my two laptops with spectre and meltdown mitigations on and off
7590 / Mitigations On
Processor: Intel Core i9-9980HK @ 5.00GHz (8 Cores / 16 Threads), Motherboard: Dell 0T8KGX (1.5.0 BIOS), Memory: 32GB, Disk: SSDPEMKF010T8 NVMe INTEL 1024GB, Graphics: i915drmfb, Audio: Realtek ALC3266
OS: Clear Linux OS 29390, Kernel: 5.5.8-arch1-1 (x86_64), Compiler: GCC 9.1.1 20190512 gcc-9-branch@271104 + Clang 8.0.0 + LLVM 8.0.0, File-System: overlayfs, Screen Resolution: 3840x2160, System Layer: Docker
Processor Notes: Scaling Governor: intel_pstate powersave - CPU Microcode: 0xca
Security Notes: itlb_multihit: KVM: Mitigation of Split huge pages + l1tf: Not affected + mds: Not affected + meltdown: Not affected + spec_store_bypass: Mitigation of SSB disabled via prctl and seccomp + spectre_v1: Mitigation of usercopy/swapgs barriers and __user pointer sanitization + spectre_v2: Mitigation of Enhanced IBRS IBPB: conditional RSB filling + tsx_async_abort: Mitigation of TSX disabled
9560 / Mitigations On
Changed Processor to Intel Core i5-7300HQ @ 3.50GHz (4 Cores).
Changed Motherboard to Dell 0YV12N (1.18.0 BIOS).
Changed Disk to PC300 NVMe SK hynix 256GB.
Security Change: itlb_multihit: KVM: Mitigation of Split huge pages + l1tf: Mitigation of PTE Inversion; VMX: conditional cache flushes SMT disabled + mds: Mitigation of Clear buffers; SMT disabled + meltdown: Mitigation of PTI + spec_store_bypass: Mitigation of SSB disabled via prctl and seccomp + spectre_v1: Mitigation of usercopy/swapgs barriers and __user pointer sanitization + spectre_v2: Mitigation of Full generic retpoline IBPB: conditional IBRS_FW STIBP: disabled RSB filling + tsx_async_abort: Not affected
Timed Idle
This test will just idle the system for the specified amount of time. This test is of benefit if paired with the system_monitor module to monitor the system sensors, battery consumption, etc while the system is idling. This also can be used just as a simple test profile to understand how the Phoronix Test Suite works. Learn more via the OpenBenchmarking.org test page.
