Intel Takes Mobile CPU To The Extreme: Aside from introducing the Core 2 Duo E6550, E6750, and E6850 processors and the Core 2 Extreme QX6850 quad-core processor, Intel has today announced the first-ever Core 2 Extreme processor that is targeted for mobile laptops. This new mobile processor is dual-core, but next year Intel hopes to introduce quad-core processors for consumer notebooks that will be battery friendly.

NVIDIA's $829 GPU: The 8800 Ultra: This morning NVIDIA has rolled out the latest GPU in the GeForce 8 series, the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 Ultra. The new Ultra GPU is slated to be 10 to 15% faster over the current flagship GeForce 8800GTX. The GeForce 8800 Ultra is equipped with 768MB of video memory, 128 stream processors, 612MHz core clock, and 2160MHz effective memory clock.

Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon: Warty Warthog, Hoary Hedgehog, Breezy Badger, Dapper Drake, Edgy Eft, and now Feisty Fawn, but what is the codename for the next Ubuntu release? Gutsy Gibbon. Ubuntu 7.10 non-LTS will be known as "Gutsy Gibbon" and will actually include two releases. Coming along side the "normal" Ubuntu release will be a new ultra-free version that includes "no firmware, drivers, imagery, sounds, applications, or other content." This new version will be developed in conjunction with the gNewSense project from the Free Software Foundation.

Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6800: Today Intel has extended its quad-core family with the introduction of the Core 2 Quad Extreme QX6800. This quad-core desktop processor will set you back $1,200 USD but runs at 2.93GHz and has a total of 8MB of L2 cache.
