USB 2.0 & USB-Over-Network Redirect For QEMU: While QEMU works well for many Linux users interested in virtualization and processor emulation, it lacks various features found in other virtualization solutions like Oracle VM VirtualBox and VMware's products. QEMU doesn't yet have a nice virtual graphics driver stack for accelerating 2D/3D on the host and there's limited hardware emulation.
Apple's Enhanced OpenGL Stack Versus Linux: While our primary focus at Phoronix is on providing Linux benchmarks, we do enjoy trying out and benchmarking other operating systems like FreeBSD, Solaris, and Mac OS X. When Apple originally launched Mac OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard" we were the first to provide detailed Mac OS X 10.6 benchmarks compared to Mac OS X 10.5 and also how Apple's new operating system at the time compared to Linux.
VirtualBox Gets OpenGL Acceleration Support: Sun Microsystems has announced the release this morning of VirtualBox 2.1 with several enticing additions. VirtualBox 2.1 introduces support for hardware virtualization (through Intel VT and AMD's AMD-V) on Mac OS X host systems, support for 64-bit guest operating systems on 32-bit host systems, support for Intel Nehalem (Core i7) virtualization enhancements, full VMDK/VHD support, a new NAT engine, and new Host Interface Networking implementations on Linux and Windows.
Mushkin HP-580AP Enhanced: During our natural sub-zero overclocking event this past winter we had chose to use the Mushkin HP-580AP power supply. The Intel processor was running 133% of its rated speed, and through the entire process the power supply was providing clean and stable voltages when monitoring the rails with multiple digital multimeters.
