Phoronix Information

ECS Z77H2-A2X Ultimate Golden Edition Extreme: Now that a majority of the key Linux performance areas have been covered on Phoronix as it pertains to Intel's Ivy Bridge in dozens of different articles since its April launch date, it's time to say a few words about the "Panther Point" motherboard that was used for many of these Phoronix tests: the ECS Z77H2-A2X Ultimate Golden Edition Extreme.

Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 AGN: When sending over the Intel Ivy Bridge kit back in April, Intel also included an engineering sample of a PCI Express x1 WiFi adapter that is part of their "Desktop Intel WiFi - 2012" platform. Does this Intel 802.11n WLAN adapter work as well under Linux as their open-source graphics driver?

NVIDIA GT 425M: Windows 7 Ultimate vs. Ubuntu 10.10: Back in August we looked at the gaming performance between Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10.04 using a Lenovo ThinkPad W510, and the results were not too dramatic, but since then there has been a new release of Ubuntu (the 10.10 Maverick Meerkat) and new graphics hardware has been released.

Intel's Centrino 2, With Linux Support?: This week Intel has unveiled its Centrino 2 platform that had been codenamed Montevina. The Centrino 2 notebook platform supports 45nm Penryn processors, GMA 4-Series graphics, up to DDR3-1333MHz support, DisplayPort/HDMI/DVI/VGA connectivity, 802.11g/n WiFi with an add-on card for 802.16 WiMax, and many other Intel innovations.

Intel Launches Santa Rosa Platform: This morning Intel has finally rolled out its upgraded Centrino platform, which for months has been known by enthusiasts as "Santa Rosa". Some of the benefits for Intel's Santa Rosa include a faster bus, draft 802.11n WiFi, and new Core 2 Duo processors. Phoronix will be looking at an Intel Santa Rosa notebook under Linux and Solaris very shortly.

Intel Centrino DDR2 Investigation: In our previous piece yesterday, we had covered the performance benefits of using a 16MB cache on 2.5-inch mobile devices compared to the traditional 8MB capacity and overall we were pleasantly surprised by our penguin findings. Today we are going to be looking again at mobile memory performance under Linux but rather than the form of permanent storage, we are examining various memory configurations and its effect on the Pentium M performance.
