Phoronix InformationThe ATI R600 on Linux: Good or Bad?: After multiple delays and going through numerous revisions, the ATI/AMD R600 (Radeon 2000 series) GPU family is finally scheduled for released towards the middle of May (circa May 14). Earlier this week some new Microsoft Windows benchmarks for the ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT surfaced which shows this high-end GPU outperforming NVIDIA's flagship 8800 series.
Industry Reviewstecharp.com: Launched on May 14, 2007, the Radeon HD 2900 XT is the first of ATI's new HD 2000 series of desktop graphics cards. Based on the long-awaited (and long-delayed) R600 VPU, this makes it the first ATI desktop graphics to support DirectX 10. Like its rivals from NVIDIA, it features a massively-parallel unified architecture with general-purpose stream processors, instead of dedicated pixel and vertex shaders.
tweaktown.com: The initial drivers were nothing to get excited about and made the performance overall look pretty ordinary. The biggest problem though is that it seems most people have already made up their minds - I will not lie to you, I had. I honestly saw the initial test results and thought the card was a joke considering how long we had been waiting for it.

Instead, the company chose to target the $399 mark, where the 2900 XT would compete against the GeForce 8800 GTS.
tweaktown.com: Ok were a little slow sometimes, we wont deny that. Why review a 1GB HD 2900 XT card when the new 3870 is out? Ultimately though, what the 8800GT and HD 3870 has done to these other high-end cards is make them worth absolutely bugger all on the second hand market.
gideontech.com: Recently ATI refreshed their line up of video cards, and they were nice enough to send one over for review, the ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT. Added to this new card were HD AC3 audio, 1080P video output, DX10 support for Vista, and a few other suprises. The testing and review took awhile, but I wanted to make sure things were done right.

trustedreviews.com: It seems ATI made the right decision when it chose not to ship HD 2900 XTs with 1024MB of memory. While doubling the memory quota does improve performance by a small margin, it is nowhere near enough to justify the increase in cost the extra memory would have demanded.
