Phoronix Information

Arch-ing ARM: Running Arch Linux On The NVIDIA Tegra 2: The CompuLab Trim-Slice is quite an interesting dual-core ARM Tegra 2 device. This nettop/desktop-oriented system ships with Ubuntu 11.04 by default, but it is also well supported by Arch Linux. In this article are some tests of the dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 1.0GHz system running under Arch.

Is Arch Linux Really Faster Than Ubuntu?: Often when we are preparing for cross-distribution comparisons or benchmarks of different operating systems (like our recent Mac OS X 10.6 vs. Windows 7 vs. Ubuntu 10.04 benchmarks) we are often asked to include Arch Linux in the mix. This is usually on the basis of including a rolling-release distribution to provide a performance look at a constantly evolving distribution with many of the most recent open-source packages rather than a traditional distribution with packages that may be months older.

Arch Linux 2010.05 Media Released: The Arch Linux distribution that uses a rolling-release model has provided new installation media that provides an updated snapshot of their core packages along with some improvements to the distributed media itself...

Arch Linux 2009.08 Benchmarks: Arch Linux 2009.08 was released earlier this week with a new installer, more automatic configuration settings, many core package updates, and other changes to this growingly popular distribution. At the request of some readers, we have carried out some quick benchmarks to get a general understanding of where Arch Linux 2009.08 is performing in comparison to Ubuntu 9.04.

Arch Linux 2009.08 Released With New Features: The developers behind Arch Linux have announced the release of Arch Linux 2009.08. This ISO for the rolling Arch Linux distribution contains an updated snapshot of Arch's core, which includes the Linux 2.6.30 kernel and many other key package updates. Additionally, Arch Linux 2009.08 contains a new installer (the AIF installer) and it delivers a better disk editor, support for automated installations, a framework for building third-party installation procedures, NTP support for date/time, enhanced GRUB routines, and usability improvements.
