Linux 2.6.20.17 Kernel Released: If you're still using the Linux 2.6.20 kernel, the sixteenth iteration has been released with three security fixes. The three fixes in the Linux 2.6.20.17 kernel are for the stack-based buffer overflow in the random number generator, sending arbitrary signals to a child process that is running at higher privileges, and a security problem in the drm/i915 component.
Linux 2.6.20.15 & Linux 2.6.21.6: Hitting the web on Friday afternoon was the Linux 2.6.20.15 and 2.6.21.6 kernels. The Linux 2.6.20.15 and 2.6.21.6 kernels fix a security problem with netfilter messages and Greg KH strongly urges all Linux 2.6.20 and 2.6.21 users that rely upon netfilter to upgrade to this latest version.
Linux 2.6.20.7 Released: If you're a user of the vanilla Linux kernel, the Linux 2.6.20.7 stable kernel has been released. There's quite a few changes that make up this release and the change-log can be viewed here. Kernel downloads are available from Kernel.org.
Linux 2.6.20.1 Released: The Linux 2.6.20.1 kernel features one basic change from Linux 2.6.20... This new kernel release fixes a free-wrong-pointer bug for NFS/ACL servers. The (short) kernel mailing list message can be read here. The Linux 2.6.18 and 2.6.19 kernels have also been updated with this fix.
Linux 2.6.20 Released: The Linux 2.6.20 kernel has been released. Among many other changes, new in this kernel is KVM virtualization and PlayStation 3 support. Our KVM virtualization article can be read here. The announcement and discussion on this new kernel can be read in the Phoronix Forums.
Linux 2.6.20-rc7: While the Linux 2.6.20-rc6 kernel was supposed to be the last test release until 2.6.20, Linus Torvalds has pushed out a seventh release candidate. This was done due to ensuring no new bugs cropped up while addressing regressions in the Linux kernel. The release announcement can be found at LKML.
Linux 2.6.20-rc6 Kernel Performance: On top of our hardware reviews and comparisons at Phoronix we also cover and compare the latest ATI and NVIDIA drivers along with some of the other popular software packages; however, we have decided to feature Linux kernel performance comparisons with each major release.
Linux 2.6.20-rc6 Released: The Linux 2.6.20-rc6 kernel has now been pushed out the door by Linus. Mr. Torvalds hopes that this release candidate will be the last one before the final Linux 2.6.20 release. More information is available at Kernel Trap.
Linux 2.6.20-rc4 Kernel Released: A week ago Linus announced the Linux 2.6.20-rc3 kernel, and today he is pushing out the Linux 2.6.20-rc4 kernel. New in the fourth 2.6.20 release candidate is primarily fixes for Kernel-based Virtual Machine along with other fixes. The change-log is available here.
Linux 2.6.20-rc3 Kernel: The third release candidate in the Linux 2.6.20 branch has been released today. The Linux 2.6.20-rc3 change-log covers the many changes in this release from rc2. Linus' wisdom with this release is it's always a good idea to cut a release *before* you go out to party and get drunk.
